Shara's Farm Parade

Here is another example of how adaptable Shara's images are.  I loved this project when I first saw Shara's Funky Folk Art 2.  I wasn't necissarily wanting a box, so I found this lamp (now available) to paint.  Isn't it cute?  I just love how these chicks, sheep and cow all line up to show their patriotism.  Shara does a great job blending the rustic chunky folk art of yesteryear and the fresh funky fresh colors on the wheels and carts.  What fun!

Flag Birdhouse

As soon as I saw this Oblong Birdhouse when we were making our wood selections for 2012, I knew at some point it would have to be painted with a flag roof.  I painted the whole thing black, applied DecoArt Weathered Wood, and then painted the bottom Khaki Tan, the stripes Light Buttermilk and Rookwood Red, the field Uniform Blue & the star Light Buttermilk.  I finished it very simply by shading the red with Black Plum, both the light stripes and bottom with Burnt Umber, and the field with Payne’s Grey.  I’m going to hang it outdoors, so I finished it with DuraClear Varnish – Matte.

This birdhouse would lend itself to many designs, but I always saw it with a flag roof!

Noah's Ark and Wicker Bunny

Like many of you, I have projects lined up at home that I want to paint and need to paint. I love all of our resin, and couldn’t wait to paint our Noah’s Ark and Wicker Bunny. I chose to paint my ark Espresso with a Honey Brown roof for a slightly darker version. It wasn’t difficult to paint, but did take a little time and patience. I started with the characters and did all of their shading and highlighting before moving on to the ark and the roof. The wood portion of the ark I highlighted with Honey Brown and a touch of Mississippi Mud and didn’t worry about adding shadows due to the dark color I chose for the base coat. My youngest son loved it so much that he wanted it for his room, especially when he realized it lit up and changed colors.

The wicker bunny I just had to paint pink for Easter. Instead of painting the entire body, I just used my largest highlighter brush and scrubbed on Baby Pink lightly letting some of the white resin color to shine through. Any areas that got too much pink I just scrubbed on a little Snow White. It is so cute and looks great sitting out in my living room.

I have so many more projects to paint, that I need to get busy. After all I do have a bazaar in November to get ready for.
Happy Painting!

I LOVE Sheep!!!!

I loved our Sheep from the moment my eyes saw her, when we got our sample resin in soooooo long ago, but all those flowers intimidated me.  But then I saw Sandra Malones version entitled Flora B and I thought, "I can do that!"

So then I only had to wait a little while longer until the catalog and the sheep was finally ready for me to purchase.  Well then I saw Diane's little black sheep version and I loved that as well.  My sheep finally arrived (you have to understand, we prep our resin order in July for the next calendar year. So, I had to wait from July until February to order.)

I sat with my little sheep and my original plan was to do a lighter version of Diane's black sheep, but once I got the base coat of gray on (I didn't have a gray I really liked so I mixed Lamp Black with Titanium White), those little flowers just screamed at me.  They wanted to shine!  So I dry brushed on some Spice Pink and then some Light Buttermilk on top of that.  I loved it, so I kept going.  A little dot of French Vanilla in the center of each flower gave the finishing polish all those flowers needed.

The face is gray and the legs and ears are Charcoal and the hooves are Lamp Black.  The Grass is Foilage Green with Med. Hauser Green. The base and watering can is Ocen Blue and shaded with Wedgewood Blue with flowers in Yellow Ocher, Spice Pink and Light Buttermilk. Once she was all painted up in all her glory, the words "Hope Springs Eternal" came to mind.  So the word HOPE made it onto the watering can to remind me that every Spring brings Hope to the wintery heart.

It's not too late, we still have some left, but once they're gone, they're gone!
